    Default Video quality problems

    Hi,

could someone tell me please which could be the problem on this video ?

    http://vimeo.com/16395445

The first portion is recorded with a miniDV JVC cam, the second portion is recorded with a Vmate.
On miniDV file it seems to influence more colors. On Vmate seems only the image is disturbed. Please note the distortion on the left side.
I'm using a video splitter from Oracle diversity. I tried to change Vout and even to record directly from one video rx. Same results.
I have the same problems on another plane with different setup.
I guess then the problem is at ground.
The strange is that on goggles I have a great image, without any of those problems.

I have another question : is it not a problem to leave open audio channels? Should it not be better to terminate them with a resistor ?

    Thanks a lot for help.

If you get a good image in your gogles then the recorder is the likely problem. I have excellent image quality on my goggles, but often the BR3002 recorder breaks up, loses synch and adds its own little bit to the picture, so my recordings look lots worse than the flight actually was. I guess different recorders handle noise differently.

    Ommadawn,

I agree. It seems the problem is in the recorder(s). The same flight recorded with two recorders (even three one time), showing a lot of distortion.
But the question still remains : which is the problem and how can it be solved ?

I think is possible that your Vmate doesnt like the data info sent on the vertical blanking interval. The other thing I see is that you reencode at too low bitrate. This could be causing the distortions on the final video.

Alex, I recorded the video with two different recorder. One is a miniDV camcorder (~28000kbps bitrate). I have same problems with it. You can see it at the beginning of the video where fat lines with bad colors appears.
I thought at first it was a problem with cam recording heads, but cam record very well when used normally.
It is not only on Vimeo, the same problem appears on the original videos.

    Thanks for help,

    Ric
