I used the Archos untill I dropped it and destroyed the HDD . Be carefull of your video/audio levels are correct or it will activate the marcovision. That will make your recordings only playable on the Archos (no video out or transfer from hdd). Now I use the same DVD recorder as Ommadawn.

    Hi Frank,
Not sure I know what you mean by "tolerate". I assume it will continue to record, but I do not know.
Here is the link. it does say it can record 19 hours of HD video, so it can record most of one of your flights...
By the way, BD-RE are the R/W equivalent in BluRay speak. Stands for "read erase" go figure.
I will take the plunge and let you know how it works.
    Cheers,
    Bill

    Congratulations.
Did you have a video of a Sony device like a SD based device? Seems I saw it when watching one of your excellent flying videos.

    Hi Martin,
The HQ is the one I recall. So that is the DVD unit. I thought it might be SD. Nice to know.
    Thanks,
    Bill

Okay guys, I ordered the Sony VBD-MA1 with a selection of rewritable disks from four different manufactors. Hopefully I can post a test video and see if it will work. Frank, can you let me know how to test the "tolerance". Maybe just see what happens on loss of signal? Or is there some other pitfall?
    Cheers,
    Bill

    Hi Bill,
I have had differing success with noise rejection. One time I was maidening a new plane and it crashed on takeoff. I forgot to turn off the recorder and went home, returning 30 mins later with another plane. The recorder resumed as soon as I switched on the second plane's VTX, so there was one continuous file of the days flying/ crashing, with just a rapid scene change when the recorder restarted.
I had a problem during a LR flight when the disc was due to be swapped out, after 55 mins. As the image was a bit grainy due to being 10 miles away, the recorder wouldnt accept the input. I had to wait until the image improved a bit before it would resume recording. Sometimes it rejects a few seconds of noisy video, and sometimes it will record really badly broken up feeds, so it isnt totally consistent. You just see momentary jumps in the recording, kind of pre-editing.
If it works ok you will be pleasantly surprised at the quality you can record. These little cameras are capable of excellent images given good light conditions.
    Cheers
    Frank

    Hi Frank,
If most of those problems are from flying out ten miles or more I won't have a problem I doubt I will get out more than a mile or two. I will see if I can replicate your experience but I have to do it from the ground...
    Cheers,
    Bill

Im looking forward to hearing about the BR burner. Longer record times would be of interest to me, as changing DVDs on the fly is a pain. The whole process takes about a minute.
