saw mod and 900MHz deluxe receiver

i have a 900MHz deluxe receiver
i got a "improved" saw filter
it has 3 legs and 1 index tab ( key?)
i crack open the rv reciever , get to the tuner , yank the old saw out ( using proper de soldering method )
the original ( now removed ) had different legs and the index tab was off ( the extra legs were ground or to the case ) and the index tab didnt line up with the marks on the board .
BIG QUESTION :
if i get the input and the output wrong will i kill anything if i power it up ?
i checked the spec sheet , and the input side (pin ) is towards the antenna , the out is towards the rca side ( logical guess ?)
another guess is that there is not enough voltage in the tuner to hurt anything ?
if it doesnt work the next answer is to invert it ?
if that doesnt work i have effectivly murdered my reciever?
my guess is if it works at all , one way should lessen video quality , the other should help ?
i have another rv reciever and that was cake
this one is a little weird
and yes , the one i removed is a "saw" filter
what do you think ?

Trial and error is NOT recommended with electronics. There may not be a lot of V, but I assume you are using a lipo to power the thing. If you end up with a short cct, you can pull hundreds of amps instantaneously, and there is lots of smoke just waiting to greet you.
Can you look up the data sheet for the original device and compare pinouts with the replacement?

it works ( at least it powers w/video ) , i havent done any range testing yet , something did change ( the type of static i get when i intentionaly miss align antennas has a somewhat different appearance ) --- notable.
i have experiance with exposure to hundreds of amps from a lipo , quite spectacular . i saw spots for days
i agree it was a somewhat high risk.
a perfect excuse for a new reciever ( i have miss matched recievers )
i wish i took pics .

so to recap..
saw filter mod does work , intermediate to advanced soldering skill required . ---noticable result , not as good as a patch antenna , but if there is nothing else you can do to cause video to improve , and your bored .. go for it

Why not just move to a better frequency. I switched from 900 about 2 years ago. I have great success with 2.4, but most seem happy with 1.2.

im pretty happy with 910 ( im in us ) - i make it about 3 miles out on a 8 db patch ( 800mw tx) , i have a 17 db patch i havent tried yet.
i was thinking 1.2 for a truck i have ( i could still use my recievers )
